Crossing the Lake on the Needles-Fauquier Ferry

The Needles ferry is part of the provincial highway system and therefore using it is free of charge. The ferry leaves each side of the lake every 30 minutes from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. After that the ferry is on call during the night. Last week I had to do some shopping in the nearby village of Edgewood. Since it was a brilliant and almost cloudless day, I took my camera with me and captured the following images. As you can see, we are still in the grip of winter. Enjoy!

  3. So gorgeous that I finally decided to Google Maps Arrow Lakes to see where you live! So you’re about six hours from Vancouver, right? What is it like to live up there besides being immersed in beautiful natural scenery?

    • My wife and I moved to Fauquier in 1976, when I accepted a teaching position. We raised our five boys in this beautiful corner of BC. No regrets. The problem with most people is to find a job in this strictly rural environment. Thanks for your interest, Amy!

      • Having always lived in the suburbs of either a major city (NYC and Boston) or of small city (Springfield MA), I have a hard time imagining living some place that rural, but I also like to imagine what it is like to live where there are wide open spaces, no crowds, and everyone knows everyone. I certainly can see the advantages of that lifestyle.

  12. Wonderful photos, Peter. The last one is my favourite. The scenery is outstandingly beautiful!
    The longest river in Norway (Glomma) runs through my hometown Fredrikstad and the ferry that takes you across is free.
    Thank you for sharing the impressions from BC.
    The enormous fires last year, where they far away from you?

    • Last summer the smoke from the forest fires was so dense that you could not look across the lake. It created an eerie atmosphere. Fortunately our nearby forests were spared thanks to the immediate response from the firefighters. Thank you for the good wishes, Hanne! Good night from Canada to Norway!
