More Birds and a Squirrel
On Easter Sunday we had another load of snow descending on us and it felt like winter all over again. The ground eagerly awaiting Spring was covered by more than 5 cm of snow. Our feathery friends being aware of the extended winter season gathered around our bird feeders in greater numbers than ever before. The northern flicker and her colourful mate made their appearance. I also had the stellar jays pose for me a little more confidently than their wary attitude would normally allow them to do. Then, of course, while not being a bird, the squirrel would not want to miss out on the banquet feast. Enjoy!
Oh dear. Not more snow. These are very lovely photos, Peter. So nice to be introduced to your wildlife.

Nice photos of the wildlife enjoying your area even in the snow. Things have been cold and very snowy thus- no kayaking or camping for me. Mother Winter has her grip on Minnesota this year.

Thank you for your kind words! Minnesota is your present location. It must be as wintry there as it is here in BC. Stay warm.

Oh boy is it ever! 5 inches then 6 more and in some spots 12 or more over the last two snow storms. I will sure try to stay warm as I plan a walk in the snow today.

Nice photos as usual, Peter. There are always nice things happening, even in the never-ending winter (I hope you’ll have sun very soon). And of course, the squirrel didn’t want to miss the party 🙂 He doesn’t want to be left out…

Thank you, Robert, for your kind comment and your interesting observation of the squirrel! My reply to one of your previous comments was for some inexplicable reasons lost together with your comment, for which I sincerely apologize. Have a great day!

Oh, my! I’ve never seen (or heard of) a stellar jay before—they are gorgeous! The flickers we do get down here, and they are among the favorites who grace our birdfeeder in the summer. Lovely!

Thank you, Amy! The stelar jays are quite common around here. They are very hard to photograph. Just like the ravens, they fly away, as soon as you point your camera into their direction. Have a great day!

When it comes to birds, my wife calls me Francis of Assisi. From the tree tops the birds watch me fill the feeders. Then they swoop down for the banquet feast ignoring my presence. You may not believe this. Last winter I had birds sitting on my hat, on the camera, one even swinging back and forth on the camera strap. Too bad I don’t have a photo to prove it.

Gosh, you are a bird whisperer 😉 Amazing how close they feel to you, Peter. It must be the positive inner spirit that draws them in

I’m so happy to see these beautiful birds. Great pictures. Do birds disappear during the winters?

I am so glad you liked them, Arv! Most birds stay during winter and need to be fed, especially when the winter is harsh.

Love having bird feeders and sitting watching the wild life. I m curious what the little animals are chatting (are they) about .. trying to pretend they are having a dinner conversation like we usually do ..

I am sure their talk will center around the one whom they watched preparing the banquet for them.

Great photos, Peter, and as much as I love the birds, the cheeky look on the squirrel won the day for me!

I guess we can relate to squirrels so much better as they seem to have certain human qualities. I am glad you liked our little critter.
