Junco Posing for the Photographer
It is hard to believe. But recently as I was walking past a maple tree I noticed a little bird with a black cap, a cute little junco, sitting on a branch. Normally they fly away as soon as you point the camera in their direction. It is quite possible that he must have observed me a couple of times as I was filling the bird feeder and perhaps thought that no harm could come by staying and in gratitude would allow me to take a couple of shots. Well, if this sounds like an unbelievable story, have a look at the pictures and decide for yourself. Enjoy.
Der sieht ja wirklich klasse aus und so zurückhaltend interessiert. Danke fürs zeigen! Was ist das denn für ein Kerlchen? Wie heißt er denn? LG Ruth

Der kleine Vogel ist ein Junco. Ich bin mir nicht sicher, ob es ihn in Deutschland gibt.

Believe it or not, the little cutie granted me more than a dozen shots in one session. I appreciate your kind comment.

Beautiful!
And why not detecing you as someone who ist “friendly” towards you? Birds have small brains but they can do magnificient things with them: Learn new songs every year…and to decide if to stay or run.
One thing is for sure: They use the available neurons of their brain in multiple ways.

I hope our brains can learn from them a few things important to our survival. It seems that we are hardwired towards inevitable self-destruction. Best wishes! Peter

Indeed, it is amazing! I also try many times but it is impossible to photograph birds. I would say that you got very lucky as the photos are very clear and beautiful; thank you for sharing them and good luck with the future spring photos near the Arrow lake ! 🙂

I believe the secret of taking pictures of birds at close range is to gain their trust. One way to do that is to feed them in the winter. Thank you so much for your kind words, Josephina!

So ein süsser kleiner Mops. Tolle Fotos!
Ich habe mal geforscht, auf Deutsch heisst er “Winterammer” und lebt laut Wikipedia in Nordamerika bis Nordmexiko. In Europa kommt er nur als “Irrgast” vor … 😉
