Arrival of the Hummingbirds
Remember the portraits of that cute little junco which allowed me to take its pictures at close range. Now the juncos have left and moved on further north presumably to their nesting areas in the Yukon wilderness. With the arrival of spring and warmer weather we now enjoy the buzzing and flitting about of the humming birds. What a surprise to have one little critter posing for me! This is highly unusual as these restless birds never sit still in one place for any length of time. This bird’s bright colourful plumage almost iridescent in the sunshine indicate his gender. He must have observed me filling up the humming bird feeder with liquid energy. So he showed his gratitude by posing for me. Enjoy.
Terrific shots! They’re usually just a buzzing flash of color, and I can’t get a good look, so this is great.

Oh, Peter! They are beautiful shots! You really were so lucky to make them! What a lovely hummingbird and I know it is so grateful for the liquid energy you provide him and his friends with. 🙂

Very cool! I miss them… we don’t have them here in NL. I use to have one small fat guy who would buzz my window in MN every time the feeder was empty. He was addicted to the sugar stuff and wouldn’t touch the thousands of flowers I had growing in my gardens. I wonder if he is in treatment now? LOL

Talk but addiction of the latest breed of sugar junkies!!!

No kidding. I wonder who is feeding his addiction now that I am gone. I use to laugh at him as he fluttered at my window begging me for more.

How beautiful, Peter! I always thought they were only tropical birds. So much beauty in a tiny creature!

The hummingbirds are migratory and fly thousands of km from the south to their nesting grounds in the north. Nobody knows how these tiny birds can fly such a long distance.

Just look at his narrow beak. He can conduct an orchestra with it 🙂 What a precious beauty

The juncos left word that you’d be waiting with your camera for the humming birds to arrive. This little fella was kind enough to oblige. (either that or he’s a big ham!)

Looks like a Rufous hummingbird. We’ll occasionally get lucky and have a transient stick around for a couple days before he heads up towards your countryside, but for the most part we just have Anna’s.
