Natural Splendour of the Arrow Lakes

The Four Seasons Country

Tempora mutantur, et nos mutamur in illis – Ovid

The days are getting shorter, the air is crisp in the early morning hours, bees and bumblebees slumber longer on our sunflowers, the redfish are spawning, the signs of autumn are written on Nature’s colourful pages. As we journey from one season into another, it is seems fitting to devote a blog post to the eternal cycle of our four seasons country. I selected a few images from my archive presenting Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter in that order. Enjoy.

  1. I like the picture of the white daisy seen from below. The view from underneath may mean getting on the ground, but the pictures are often worth the trouble.

I remember my grandmother, whose native language was Russian, once quoting “Tempora mutantur,” though not the second part. Some philosophers have wondered whether we stay and time goes past us, or whether time stays and we move through it. Others have noticed that “Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose” and “Nihil sub sole novum.”

    • Thank you, Steve, for your keen eyes to spot my kneeling or my lying-on-belly technique!

  2. All of the are lovely, but I particularly like the three depicting winter. The first amuses me. It looks like some strange Northern creature sitting primly at a table with its hands folded — perhaps waiting to be served dinner.
