Natural Splendour of the Arrow Lakes

Wednesday’s Photos

Ice Sculptures

Winter has finally arrived. Extreme cold has gripped the Arrow Lakes region with temperatures hovering around the minus 15 C mark. Luckily, the cold weather was still tolerable, as the sun was casting its brilliance over the winter landscape. My wife and I all bundled up walked along the lakeshore at the Fauquier boat dock. The freezing temperatures had worked hard to cover driftwood, boulders and boat launch with a thick layer of ice. Then I discovered icicles in all kinds of forms and shapes which I captured with my camera. The following is just a small sample of Nature’s artwork. Enjoy.

Nature is a splendid artist, and you have the eye to see it! On one of the photos I see a hand, I think … and the last one looks like somebody on his knees pointing and the birds are turning around to see what he is pointing at. Simply wonderful!

Indeed, I saw the hand in it right away, before I even took the picture. As beautiful the hand looks, I would prefer to receive a hand shake from a warm-blooded human being.

They’re beautiful—but I think I prefer the warmth of Florida right now!

Nice. It looks like it hasn’t snowed, lately.

There has been lots of snow on the mountains, but very little in the valleys.

A great winter album, Peter! Shots 2 -4 might be of milk cows, perhaps the udders where they get ice cream. That final scene, of Dr. Seuss creatures on the beach, is very cool!

Dr. Seuss creatures? That is a great way to describe these ice formations, Robert.

The fourth picture looks like an upper set of teeth. For once Austin has offered up similar scenes.

Funny, you get the cold now that spring has arrived in Germany (+17 today in Düsseldorf) and we’ve got thaw now in southern Finland. Still -22 on Wednesday and today +2. What an extreme weather change.

I’ve got to “hand” it to you, those are some fine icicles you found and photographed, Peter. In addition to the hand number three is “udderly” lovely. 🙂

Your comment reminds me of a joke that goes like this. Have you ever seen a cow with five teats? That’s udder nonsense.
