Visit to the Burton Flats
Yesterday, the air was crisp after a frosty night. Still, the sun came out with the full brilliant force to warm and light up brilliantly the morning landscape of our beloved Arrow Lakes. A ten-minute drive from Fauquier going north on Highway 6, we visited the so-called Burton Flats. This low-lying area was once productive agricultural land. It got flooded when BC Hydro built a dam near Castlegar. The lake level is so low around this time of the year that one can see how narrow the Columbia River once was. There my wife and I went for a long walk to the original river bank. The following is a small sample that we brought home from our outing. Enjoy.

Those mountains are so majestic! We don’t have mountains like that in the east or at least not where I’ve been in the east.

These are great shots, Peter, and the second one, with the rocks in the foreground, mimicking the mountains, is my favorite.

Peter, thank you for sharing your world. Love the mountains and water photos. You and Biene have wonderful places to walk close to your home. Here in Alaska, we have been getting much snow, to top off all the snow that has been accumulating, since October. Enjoy your day!

Yes, that song by Johnny Horton used to play on the radio. It is -20 F right now and is supposed to get colder. What I like is seeing more of the sun. Perhaps it will melt in ;ate Aprl or early May. The snow has sparkles that look like diamonds.

Your area’s so beautiful. I especially enjoyed the photo of the rocks. They reminded me of a pile of elephant seals, napping.

I like the second photo the most also. Well worth getting down low and maybe a little dirty to get that perspective.It’s a shame agriculture lost out to hydropower but at least hydropower is a bit more ecologically healthy than some other sources.

Good judgement! I recently posted the same picture on Pixabay and received special recognition. It is worth being humble once in a while and lie on your belly to get a special perspective.
