Not so Pretty Sight
The following video should be entitled: Natural Horror of the Arrow Lakes. About 20 km south of where we live a wildfire caused by lightning is raging through steep and inaccessible terrain. The residents of Fauquier have received evacuation alerts from the provincial government. The smoke is so dense that the sun is hidden for most of the day. We can barely see the other side of the lake. I let the camcorder run for half an hour and then accelerated the video so it would fit into a 40 second runtime. Let us hope that the fire does not spread into our direction.

Now that is really bad news. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the fire can be contained soon.

Oh my. We have been keeping track of the big fires in Oregon and California but had not heard of fires in Canada, too! Good Luck, Peter. Hope your home is spared.

Hi Dad if you are reading this there is an evacuation order for Edgewood and Needles. Highway 6 is open westbound for people evacuation. Please make plans to leave for Vernon now.

Just awful. Be safe. That smoke has traveled all the way to the US east coast so far and covered the moon here.

Fires have their purpose in the natural scheme of things, but like hurricanes, their effect on humans has increased for a variety of reasons. I hope this one can be contained before it affects the town, and you. Like Rob, I wish we could send you some of our rain. It’s been so consistent that people have begun calling the time it begins to fall every day “rain o’clock.”

Fauquier has been evacuated? That means that your home is already endangered? I hope for the best that the fire can be fought successfully. Canada is used to wildfires, so I presume that an effective warning/evacuation practice is in use?

We have had so much rain and I wish we could share it with you, Peter. I hope the fires are under control by now but that is a huge undertaking. Best of luck to you.

I am so sorry to read this Peter and to see from the comments that the danger has not yet passed. Your video makes the hillside look like a volcano. I am sending my very best wishes to you, your family and your community.

Shocked. We have lots of close relatives in California and know of lots of wildfire cases from there, but never Canada. Perhaps also lesser reported in India. Also read about 50C plus temperatures in BC. Stay safe, Peter!
