Sunsets and Wildfires
We all heard about the devastating effects forest fires can have on wildlife and humans. The destruction of homes and entire communities was horrific especially this summer. It also appears that the fires become more frequent and more destructive with each new year. However, it is easy to forget that there is a positive side to nature’s rebellion against humanity. The wildfires are also a form of cleansing creating new feeding grounds and much needed habitats for wildlife, and getting rid of pests and diseases from ailing forests. For the photographer, wildfires are also the cause of spectacular sunsets. Here are a few examples from the past few years from my archives. Enjoy.

And your beautiful photos have reminded me of the similar effect we see when Saharan dust crosses the Atlantic and obscures our skies. All of your images are appealing but I especially like the one with the dock.

There’s nothing like smoke (provided not too much of it) to create some gorgeous sunrises and sunsets, and even some pretty scenes in the middle of the day.

The photos are spectacular … but, knowing that the red hue and the smoke in the first photo are witnesses of wildfires does spoil the joy, does it not?
The last photo with the landing bridge and the sun reflecting in the water is absolutely stunning!

As long as the wildfires are natural and not the result of some human stupidity or malevolence then we can enjoy what Nature has wrought for what it is, the natural cleansing of the Earth. There may be unfortunate consequences but Nature makes no mistakes.
I also like the dock photo. It is unique, I think, because rather than pulling us into the picture it appears to be bringing the distance to us. Maybe just my perspective but it is a nice shot.

Excellent shots, boy, that first one looks like the sky itself is on fire. And I’ll join in the chorus of praise for the final shot. The black posts make a nice, bold effect.
