Wednesday’s Photos
Canada Geese in Search of Food
Last week we had our first major snowfall. Fortunately milder weather and plenty of rain quickly melted the white stuff away. But rain or snow, our flocks of Canada geese are not flying south anymore and are tough enough to endure the winter. Here is a video that I composed from recent captures and from clips stored in my archive. I am using Filmora X now and found it a lot easier to use than VideoPad. Enjoy.
Enjoyed your video with the Canada geese. Thank you for sharing!

Are you saying that the geese used to migrate south, but that now that winters are milder they aren’t? Or did they never go south?

We have been living in this area for more than 30 years. So we know for a fact that the Canada geese left the area in late October. Now they no longer leave. Yes, it is another indication of global warming.

Although it must be nice to have them around, how sad that it’s another sign of our climate changing and our planet heading for doom if we don’t act soon.

Congratulations on the snowfall. Sunday I heard geese headed south when I was walking in to church.

I just learned a year or two not to call them “Canadian geese,” but “Canada geese.” They’re so handsome. We get both Canada and snow geese here in winter. The number depends on the weather, their chosen flight path, and so on, but there’s nothing like hearing the first ones of the season — so high in the air they can’t be seen, only heard.

Grammarly just tried to correct me on the use of Canada geese. So it is not so much of a grammatical error. By the way, the Canada geese here in Fauquier won’t fly south anymore.

They are beautiful birds! I like the music you chose for the video.
For some weeks now, we actually have a large group of them at the Kattegat near where we live. But after today’s heavy wind and snow they might just go further south … but Germany is not any better right now.

I always loved those geese, especially in your video watching their flapping wings go so well with the music. How wonderful that you have already snow, that makes me missing Germany. Thank you dear Peter for this wonderful share. Ich wuensche Euch eine schoene Adventszeit.

It’s interesting that the Canada geese near you aren’t flying south for the winter anymore. Some analysts have pointed out that warmer temperatures will give Canadian farmers longer growing seasons and will let some of them plant crops that previously wouldn’t do well in a colder climate. Not all the effects of global warming are negative.

Thanks for showing the fauna from your region. Many birds arrive in our part of India during winters. Mostly from Russia, Mongolia, and China to escape from harsh winters.
