Walter Panknin (1898 – 1977) and His Family Ch7 Part 18

Family Reunion at Lake Ammer

Biene writes:

Our family, including my uncle and aunt, spent the summer of 1963 at Lake Ammer in Bavaria, Southern Germany.  Lake Ammer is the sixth-largest lake in Germany.  Since sailing is a popular sport there, our father equipped our fold boat with sails. Our vessel resembled a lightweight canoe which could be folded up.

My twin brother was excited by the prospect of easy sailing instead of strenuous paddling. Boats of any kind were his passion.  And he was already a very skilled model boat builder. He loved sailboats in particular.  The previous summer, he had learned to sail with a friend on the island of Corsica.

The weather was beautiful that summer at Lake Ammer.   The lake was still and calm, like a mirror under a cloudless sky, for the first few days of our stay.  I enjoyed the wonderful sandy beach. When I was not swimming or sunbathing, I would sit under a shade tree and read the gripping biographical novel  “Lust for Life” by Irving Stone.  A great read which is based on Vincent Van Gogh’s turbulent life. Vincent Van Gogh was and still is my favourite painter.

Last Summer’s Family Reunion in Videos – Part I

Even though I have fully embraced computer and digital technology, I have two problems with both. It has to do with their miniature size. On the cameras I find it often difficult to use the tiny buttons with which to control the settings. On the small SD cards fit thousands of images. If you happen to misplace the card or worse you accidentally erase the files, the loss of these visual treasures could cause a lot of pain. This almost happened to me, when my precious video files from last summer went missing and I had almost given up of ever finding the SD card again. As it turned out, I had put it in a “safe” place, a special card holder not much larger than a Canadian dollar coin. Recently I rummaged through my camera bag. Guess what, I found the card. The result is the video report of our family reunion 2014.

Our Family Gathering at Taite Creek

Chart I – III, IV & V

Our son Richard and our two little granddaughters Azure and Emeline  are coming for a visit this coming Monday. Then I will depart from my weekly blogging routine and dedicate all posts to our visitors. I will give short reports about their daily activities with lots of pictures to boot. My wife and I are looking forward to seeing our loved ones, who are coming all the way from Montreal. Stefan, our youngest son, will be joining them, and perhaps Michael and Angie, if they can get away from their busy work schedule. The last time we were together, we had a big family reunion at Taite Creek Campsite close to the beach of the beautiful Arrow Lake. So before our guests arrive, I thought it would be a good idea to post a few pictures of our wonderful family from last August.

At our family reunion in August 2014 the entire Peter and Gertrud Klopp family was present. At the first picture in the top gallery, the family members from left to right are Michael and his wife Angie, Richard and Youki with Emeline on the arm and Azure standing, Mateo, Robert, Biene (Gertrud), Peter (myself) and Stefan, thirteen people in all.
