A Thank You Note to Our Brave Firefighters
The wildfires that have been devastating nearby forest and were threatening to destroy our small community have finally been brought under control. This week, I observed a helicopter flying over the lake to pick up water, then carrying the bucket to the few remaining hotspots left from the recent wildfire. The pilot made the 20 km round trip in 20 minutes. That is 3 trips per hour and 24 buckets in his 8-hour shift. We are so grateful to all the firefighters who saved our little community of Fauquier from disaster.
You must all be relieved!

It seems like such a David versus Goliath, The chopper and it’s bucket look minuscule compared to the forests on the mountains. So happy that David won once again.

Indeed, it is a gigantic battle against a monster that appears to get stronger with every new fire season.

Indeed, well said; being a firefighter is not so well seen as being a manager….. But thinking of all the situations in which firefighters have practically saved people, children or placea, ”chapeau bas”. I met once a firefighter during my dance classes and he was incredibly modest, fearless, trustful that his job is safe and that he is doing the right thing. I admired that and I told him he is a good firefighter. These people deserve our respect and appreciation, well said mr Peter! Good health to you and your wife and a peaceful remaining of 2021 in Fauquier! 🙂

It’s wonderful that they’re at a point where spot fires are the issue. There are so many ways to attack a fire, and the skill of the firefighters is a marvel to behold. You might be interested in seeing this video of a different technique that was used in Steve Schwartzman’s neighborhood during one of our fire seasons.

Helicopters being used to stop wildfires are not very popular in this part of the world.
