Natural Splendour of the Arrow Lake

Dear blogging friends, I am presently camping with my wife and have limited access to the Internet. I try to give you likes, but there is no time for writing comments. I am so sorry.

More Discoveries from the Canoe

It is my hope that I will not tire or worse not bore my blogging friends with yet another photo shoot taken from our canoe. However, traveling this time north in the direction of Fauquier along the eastern shoreline of the Arrow Lake my wife and I encountered a merganser mama and her almost grown-up brood. With the imposing rock formation as backdrop I felt compelled to capture the lovely scene of wildlife unfolding before our very eyes. On our way back to the campground a pair of whitetail deer was frolicking at a deserted beach. Enjoy.

Reflections, Lake Impressions and Wildlife

Today’s focus is on the beauty of the Arrow Lake on, in and near the water. Reflections are forever fascinating, especially when you watch them in a light breeze, which adds motion to the wavy water surface.  While relaxing at the beach on Father’s Day last Sunday, mama merganser with her little brood came by close enough for me to take a picture of the same merganser family, we had observed the week before. I captured the two bears on my camera a couple of years ago also in the spring. It is quite rare to see two different coloured bears together. Enjoy.A-IMG_6352A-IMG_6382A-IMG_6386A-IMG_6393A-bears

What We Saw from our Canoe last Sunday

The sun was shining brightly, the temperature was a comfortable 21 degrees, and the wind had calmed to a pleasant breeze. Off we went to our beloved spot at the Arrow Lake and launched our canoe driven by a quiet electric motor in search for some great nature photography. We were lucky. As we travelled along the shoreline, we spotted a merganser pair that allowed us to come close enough to get in a few shots. Enjoy.

Wildlife Part II

Birds of the Arrow Lake

For this second part I selected a few birds that live at the water or near the water. Among the water fowl the Canada goose is most common bird around here. Spending more time in the dry bush is the grouse. The mallard duck prefers secluded ditches as long as they are filled with water and offer hiding places. The merganser loves the lake and would not be anywhere else, while the kingfisher likes to look at the lake from above. Enjoy.

Wild Birds of the Arrow Lakes

On today’s post we will look at the grouse, the merganser, the mallard duck, the cedar waxwing and the bald eagle. These wild birds are well established in our region and can be easily observed in the water and on land. Of course, the list of annual visitors is by no means complete. Some time in the near future I will have to present a complementary post on the osprey, the Canada geese, the blue heron, and other birds, which have made the Arrow Lakes their home. I hope you will enjoy the images.
