Inuksuk and Winter Landscape

Even though our calendar tells us that spring has sprung and many of my blogging friends have published photos of blooming spring flowers, Old Man Winter refuses to leave here at Arrow Lakes country. The picture leaves no doubt that we will have to put up with a few more weeks of winter until all the snow has melted to make room for the colourful harbingers of spring. For me, it was a joyful moment to discover that someone had taken the time to build the inuksuk on one of the log booms resting on our beach.
I will take a short break from blogging to visit our sons and family. When I return after the Easter long weekend, I hope to present more spring-related pictures to you.

Shadowy Selfie

After last week’s ring-framed landscape photo, Steve gave me the idea of getting someone’s face behind the iron ring. So if my wife is willing, I might just try to do that on our next hike. Today I present another landscape photo from the same lakeshore location. While processing the picture, I discovered my shadow at the other side of the Fauquier Creek. Enjoy.

The Oak Tree

Two weeks ago, I published two photos that added with the help of the rosehips and the pine tree a little bit of colour to the otherwise grey winter landscape. Many people also noticed the oak tree with the orange leaves. Who can solve the puzzle about the leaves still on this tree and also on all the maple trees here in our little community at the end of January? I have never observed this curious phenomenon before. Today’s photo was taken in bright sunshine about a week ago. Enjoy.

Yearning for Colour

A little bit of green (Hope) provided by the Ponderosa pine tree and a sprinkle of red (Love) with courtesy from the rose hips go a long way to cheer up our hearts on a soggy, rainy winter day in the Kootenays. Temperatures 10 degrees above normal in April are quite common but not in January in our neck of the woods. I took the two photos 30 minutes before dark. Enjoy.

Observations on the Way to the Hot Springs

Last week, my wife and I visited the Nakusp Hot Springs after a more than two years hiatus because of Covid-19. The snow indicates that we still experience winter conditions. But the sun shone brilliantly from a blue sky and the temperature was hovering pleasantly around the freezing mark. On this hour-long trip, we frequently stopped and took these pictures. We even caught a sunset photo on our way home. Enjoy!

Of Snow Sculptures and Winter Landscapes

During the last two weeks, I may have created the false impression that I did not like winter with my nostalgic look back to summer and fall. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Every season has its beauty. I pulled photos out of my archives because I had to take care of my wife and make sure that her broken leg was healing properly. There was just no time to go out and take pictures for both of us. Today and the day before, Biene and I drove down to the lake. My wife could not leave the car but took photos through the open window. I wandered around the parking lot to look for some worthwhile themes. The highways crew had piled up the snow such that the resulting sculptures displayed interesting shapes. Here they are. Enjoy!
