At the Birdbath

With temperatures soaring and the dry spell continuing, birds of all descriptions seek relief at the birdbath in our yard. Recently, I captured a lark sparrow sitting at the rim and drinking from the basin with a solar-powered fountain.

  1. They do appreciate the occasional water bowl; it’s good of you to provide one for them. The sound of water is a real attraction. When I fill my birds’ water dish, I always pour the water from a couple of feet above the bowl, and every now and then a bird will hear the noise and come fluttering down.

  2. We have a bird bath also that is used just as much for drinking as for bathing during these hot times. As well, we keep a hummingbird feeder which is also visited by the local sparrows and woodpeckers besides the hummers. It’s important to do what we can for our wild neighbors. Good of you to provide water.
