Rhododendron’s Paradise

Not too far from Fauquier lives a couple originally from Germany, who are very good friends of ours. Klaus and Erika built their little paradise away from the noisy hustle and bustle of the big cities. Their log house and their garden are surrounded by cedar and fir trees granting them total privacy with the exception of bears, squirrels and racoons which often pay them a visit, especially when the walnuts are getting ripe. Their property, directly located at the Arrow Lake, fits the title of my photo series to a T. Last week this lovely couple invited us to taste their home made rhubarb pie and to view the flowering rhododendrons in their yard. Here is a sample of the photos I took that memorable afternoon. Enjoy.

Fungi, Seeds and Berries in Winter

Last week our focus was on the amazing shapes and forms that Mother Nature can produce in the winter. Today we are having a look at the inherent beauty of seemingly dead plants, such as fungi, seeds and berries. Again I present five images to you. I would like to find out which ones my readers like best. Although always welcome and appreciated, no comments are necessary. I numbered the photos, so it would be easy to give a quick personal assessment. Just use three numbers in the order of your preference. Have fun! Enjoy!

Last week’s evaluation produced a rather peculiar result. All photos were equally liked judged by the dozen or so entries, with the exception of #1, which did not seem particularly to please any of my followers. Perhaps Africa surrounded by ice was not a very appealing idea. FB users were notably absent from last week’s contest, because WordPress failed to alert my FaceBook followers.

Looking back at Wild Flowers in the Dead of Winter

One way to bring some joy to our hearts during the dreary days of winter is to remember the bright and cheerful colours, with which the wild flowers bedecked the landscape during spring, summer and fall. It is my hope that you will like the small sample of roses, daisies, tiger lilies and other floral beauties whose names I do not even know. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all my followers for their past comments and likes for my blog and to wish each and everyone a very Blessed Christmas!

Whatshan Lake, the Little Gem in the Kootenays

Wednesday’s Photos

On a grey late October Day my wife, our youngest son, his partner and I went to explore the area at  Whatshan Lake. It is located north of Fauquier and only a few miles from the Arrow Lake. Although it was foggy, the light was perfect for taking some photos, which prove that the world can still be colourful so far advanced into the fall. I hope you will enjoy the sample of images.

Beautiful Arrow Lakes, BC, Canada

Wednesday’s Photos

Above the Nakusp Hot Springs leads a trail to the bridge over the Kuskanax Creek. Its crisp and clean mountain waters tumble down and join the Arrow Lake at the picturesque town of Nakusp. Let’s take walk there and enjoy the amazing scenery.

Our Summer in Pictures

Although our Beautiful British Columbia had been plagued this summer by a terrible heat wave and dry spell causing devastating wild fires,  our community was lucky. The few fires caused by lightning were quickly put out. However, the smoke in the air was often so dense that one could  not see the mountains across the lake. In spite of the eerie gloom in the air, there were moments when nature granted glimpses into its amazing beauty.
