Huckleberry Picking Time

Last Sunday my wife and I drove to our huckleberry spot, which is known for its lavishly abundant crops. This year we had a particularly good growing season. A warm and sunny spring brought out their flowers to be promptly pollinated. Then cool and rainy weather set in to make the berries grow to almost the size of the commercial blueberries. Sunday had been our third and last day of picking. Together we gathered more than 10 pounds of top quality huckleberries, which when frozen will last us throughout the winter. The pretty wildflower greeted us when we entered our favourite picking area. Enjoy.

Gallery of Wildflowers

Two weeks ago my wife and I stopped at a promontory overlooking the Arrow Lake, where we often have taken pictures of the lake below. This time our focus and theme were the wildflowers, which were blooming now in great profusion everywhere in our valley. We were truly rewarded with so many delicate and incredible flowers in various stages of development that I broke the no-more-than-five-photos rule for my posts. It is my hope that you will like them as much as I did. Enjoy.

Reflections, Lake Impressions and Wildlife

Today’s focus is on the beauty of the Arrow Lake on, in and near the water. Reflections are forever fascinating, especially when you watch them in a light breeze, which adds motion to the wavy water surface.  While relaxing at the beach on Father’s Day last Sunday, mama merganser with her little brood came by close enough for me to take a picture of the same merganser family, we had observed the week before. I captured the two bears on my camera a couple of years ago also in the spring. It is quite rare to see two different coloured bears together. Enjoy.A-IMG_6352A-IMG_6382A-IMG_6386A-IMG_6393A-bears

Curious Forms and Shapes

On a recent walk along the beach with my wife I made some unusual discoveries. Guided by the theme ‘Curious Forms and Shapes’ I did not have to stretch the imagination to see a colossal head of stone above a hollow steaming under the burning afternoon sun. Then I viewed a craggy mountain created by an old tree stump, which was stretching into the blue sky above. Then I discovered a witch lying in the sand with her long nose sticking out and a striped cape covering head and shoulder. As you can see, all is a matter of perspective. All of these shots I took while lying down. Enjoy.

Above, Below, and Through Branches

The first three pictures demonstrate how much a landscape gains in beauty, when branches are being used for framing and are lending support to a given scenery. The last picture is showing the sun piercing through a dense forest with its light being scattered and refracted by snow and ice in the branches. Enjoy.

Ice, Rocks and Water

On our walk along the beach I noticed that the lake level had not dropped since the last snowfall. So the edge of the lakeshore and the snow were close together. That was a great opportunity for Mother nature to form icicles with each wave spilling over the rocks. That immediately gave me the theme for today’s photo presentation. Enjoy!
