The Pleasures of Colour, Shape, and Taste
Look what I have picked from our raised garden beds. The strawberries plants were shipped to BC from Prince Edward Island two years ago. Now they are at the peak of their production. A bowl a day provides a healthy collection of jam, cake topping, or just the pleasure of eating them

Your strawberries are gorgeous and look mouthwateringly delicious. Congratulations on such a rich harvest.

Today I picked too many to eat, so my wife made seven jars of strawberry jam.

Your strawberries look like they taste like real strawberries, I’m sure they are different than store bought.

Indeed, the store-bought ones cannot compete with strawberries coming out of your own garden.

Nice harvest, Peter. The only time I buy strawberries is when they are in season from local farmers and our season just ended. The ones that get shipped and are white inside just aren’t as good. We thought about purchasing some plants but did not. Yours look very tasty.

Home-grown strawberries are the best. The store-bought ones cannot compete with them.

They look simply delicious, Peter! Great specimens! I have given up on strawberries … nearly … it is too dry in spring and the birds love them. 😉

Wie lecker!! Da möchte man gleich reinbeißen!

These may be the prettiest strawberries I’ve seen. Of course, when they’re in season here, I concentrate more on consuming them than on viewing them, so I may have missed a few other pretty ones along the way!

I agree good-looking strawberries are not
the reason we grow them. Today I picked too many to eat, so my wife made seven jars of strawberry jam.

That sounds like work! 😊 I froze several quarts a couple of years ago and we made smoothies all summer. Nothing like fresh fruit.

So now you’ve metaphorically bedded down with the fruit that you raised in your raised garden beds.
I see that German calls a strawberry an Erdbeere, or earthberry.

I assume there’s an implicit comparison to berries that grow higher up on bushes or trees.
